Media Grade
The condition of the playable item itself — for example the vinyl record, CD or DVD. We consider visible wear as well as how the item is expected to play.
Every graded RockMasta product is assessed separately for the media and the sleeve / packaging, using the standard Discogs-style grading scale below.
The condition of the playable item itself — for example the vinyl record, CD or DVD. We consider visible wear as well as how the item is expected to play.
The condition of the outer cover, jacket, sleeve, case or packaging. This is graded separately because a clean disc can still have worn packaging, or vice versa.
Perfect, unplayed or unopened. This grade is used very sparingly.
Practically perfect. It may have been played, but has no significant visible flaws and no noticeable playback issues. This is generally the highest realistic grade for a used item.
Light signs of wear such as slight scuffs or very faint marks, but still presents and plays very well. Roughly “excellent” in everyday language.
Noticeable wear, light scratches or some surface noise, but still a solid playable copy. Sleeves may show ring wear, edge wear or small seam splits.
Heavy wear with obvious marks, noise or packaging damage. The item should still play through, but condition issues are clearly noticeable.
Well worn, with significant noise, scratches or damage that affects playback or presentation, although the item still plays through.
Badly worn or damaged. Playback may be difficult and the item may have serious defects. Usually suited to collectors who want a placeholder or completeness copy.
Severely damaged, cracked, skipping or otherwise barely usable. Generally kept only for completeness, display, parts or as a placeholder copy.
If a product says Media: VG+ and Sleeve: VG, the record/disc itself is in Very Good Plus condition while the cover or packaging is in Very Good condition.
Grades describe condition, not rarity or value. Photos and item-specific notes should always be considered alongside the grade.
